The mission of the Dominican Literacy Center is to help women learn to read, write and speak English within an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. Through the generosity of trained volunteer tutors, immigrant women learn to communicate in English and to be a formative influence on their families and a strong participant in their neighborhoods, churches, workplaces and communities.

Any woman, age 18+, who would like to learn to read, write and speak English may call the Center at 630-898-4636 and put her name on the waiting list. We will call you to make an appointment for registration and testing. We welcome all women who come to the Center. There is no cost for the classes; the book fee is $25.00

Would you like to help a women learn to read, write and speak English?  You can---by donating to the Sponsor-a-Student Campaign at the Dominican Literacy Center in Aurora, IL.  Every donation of $100 provides books and learning materials for a year for a student and her tutor.  A donation of $1,000 covers the whole cost of a year of ESL tutoring.  ANY donation is greatly appreciated and will help our women speak English and become a full participant in her new life in the United States.  Use Razoo (above) to make an online donation.  Or send a check to "Dominican Literacy Center, 260 Vermont Street, Aurora, IL  60505. As one of our students said after graduating from our program, "I feel complete now.  I can speak with my neighbors, my doctor, and my family. I am not a silent person anymore."  Thank you in advance for your donation.  It will bear fruit in the lives of our women and their families.

All of us at the Dominican Literacy Center are deeply
saddened by the death of our good friend, and friend of the poor, John Clark.  His presence in our lives will be deeply missed.  John's generosity and assistance to those in need will live on in the lives that he has touched, and we will never forget him.
