Volunteer Tutors

Volunteer tutors come to the Center every week to partner with women who wish to learn to read, write, and speak English.  All tutors receive 16 hours of training and on-going support from the Dominican Literacy Center staff.  Tutors meet with students weekly, using ESL books, writing exercises, conversation practice, grammar exercises and computer materials.

Tutor training is held twice a year, in August and in January. The next tutor training class will be on Saturday, January 16, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The training is free; the cost of the book (which you will keep) is $15.00.  Please call the Center (630) 898-4636, or e-mail Sr. Ann Clennon at annclennon@sbcglobal.net to inquire about and register for tutor training.

Tutors select a weekly tutoring time which fits their schedules.  Dominican Literacy Center tutoring sessions are held 5 mornings, 4 afternoons, and 3 evenings each week.
